Mohan Mulani, my inspiration.

My second day of idling at home, after my last day at work last week. hehehe
As usual the first papers I picked up is LIFE Straits Times and the front cover captured my attention. I love to read articles on successful ppl and that is it ~ MOHAN MULANI (the man who met Harry's)

Till now, did I know that the bar was not related to any Harry's bar in London or New York, and none of the original owners was called Harry.

So Mohan Mulani discovered the first Harry's Bar in Boar Quay, when it first opened in 1992 which was then owned by an American expat. Being a regular patron himself, he persuaded the american expat to let him buy into the company for $300k in 1993, so that he could "get a piece of the action"

Well to get a "piece of his action" and how he become so successful, read the Lifesection on The Monday Interview larr :P

I learnt something from Mulani and that is;

* Be focused. Dont try to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. When all hell broke loose, you will have no strength.
* Pick one business and you stay really focused on it.
* Success is a by-product of passion. Be passionate!

Already going public listed, Mr Mulani has proposed to his shareholders to build a four star Harry's Hotel in the CBD area, to appeal to business travellers seeking Harry's style bars and restaurants under one roof. And also other plans like going into catering business.

We shall await for that :)

Cheers!

THERE'S A SAYING IN CUSTOMER CONTACT BUSINESSES SUCH AS RESTAURANTS, HOTELS AND BARS: "YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE PEOPLE YOU EMPLOY."
I'VE BEEN GOING TO HARRYS @ RAIL MALL SINCE IT OPENED TWO TO THREE TIMES A WEEK AND HAVE A GREAT RAPPOR WITH THE STAFF AND OTHER CUSTOMERS.
HOWEVER, ONE PARTICULAR INCIDENT ON JULY 28 CHANGED MY VIEW SOMEWHAT. THE VIDEO SCREENS WERE SHOWING A SPECIAL SPORTS AWARD EVEN FROM THE USA. ALL THE TOP STARS WERE THERE FROM EVERYWHERE.

BUT THERE WAS NO SOUND. I ASKED THE DUTY MANAGER JEFFREY FIVE TIMES TO PUT THE SOUND ON. HE SAID HE WAS TOO BUSY WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS. THERE WERE ONLY 8 DOTTED AROUND AND WERE BEING HELPED BY OTHER STAFF. SUDDENLY HE PUT THE SOUND ON POP MUSIC AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE WHICH DROWNED ALL CONVERSATION. WHAT A JERK! NEVER AGAIN. SO FAR THIS YEAR i'VE SPENT MORE THAN $2000 AT THIS PARTICULAR HARRY'S. THAT'S THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY - A FEW BAD APPLES ALWAYS SPOIL THE WHOLE BARREL.
